나는 사람들이 어떻게 자신을 표현할 수 있는지에 대해 한계가있음을 느꼈다. 여러나라에서 많은 사람들이 직장이나 학교에서 정장 또는 교복을 입는다. 사람들은 이 '바른 옷 입는 방법'을 받아들였지만, 나는 항상 '바른 옷 입는 방법은 무엇이냐'와 '누가 옳은 길을 결정하느냐'에 의문을 품었다. 지금도 나는 많은 직장인들이 똑같은 색깔과 디자인의 양복을 입고 출근하는 것을 본다. 분홍색 정장이 업무에 적합하지 않은 이유는 무엇인가? 왜 사람들은 입는 것이 옳고 그른 것으로 여겨지는 것을 따라야 하는가?
"내면 안과 밖". 성별이 없는 컬렉션이다. 사적이고 개인적인 자신을 대중적인 시각으로 끌어들여 개인의 개성이 빛을 발할 수 있으면 좋겠다. 나는 억압적인 문화적 규범과 성별이 자유로운 패션에서 자유로운 세상을 본다.
Growing up in Korea, I felt a limitation on how people could express themselves. In my country many people wear uniforms for work and for school. People accepted this ‘right way of dressing’ but I always questioned ‘what is the right way of dressing’ and ‘who decides what is the right way?’ Even now, I see many businessmen going to work wearing that same color and design of suit. What makes a pink colored suit inappropriate for work? Why do people have to conform to what is deemed right or wrong to wear? This is my gender-free collection. I name it “ Inside and out”, because I am bringing the private and personal self into public view; allowing the individual’s personality to shine through. I see a world that is freed from oppressive cultural norms and fashion that is gender free.
